Our 2013-2014 School Calendar

I'm trying to learn from the past and be realistic as I plan out an entire school year. I'm giving the children more scheduled breaks during the year which will allow time for sick days that pop up and also help prevent burn out! This schedule is flexible because I can tweak which day they take off. For example, just because they have Monday, February 10th scheduled off doesn't mean that is the day they have to take off. They can take off any day that week. Typically, Fridays are our days to be off and spend time with friends, but every now and then there is something fun happening another day of the week.

I tried to give the children every other Friday off and atleast three days per month off.

We didn't take a lot of time off at Christmas this past year, so they requested a longer, solid break at Christmas time. I decided to give them 12 straight days off which seems like a good amount of time.

Their school year will run a little longer (until the second week of June), but when I explained to them that they would have more breaks throughout the year and that they get a good, solid month and a half off for summer break, they were good with it.

Each of my children have their very own copy of the calendar, so they can look at it to see when their next day off will be.

I printed the blank calendar from Donna Young: Free Printable Calendars.
